Lativa: The Country Worth Noting

Welcome to Latvia! This blog is about not only the powerful and exciting performance that they performed at the Eurovision Song Contest but the overall culture of this beautiful country. I chose Latvia due to the National Basketball League having a spectacular professional Latvian basketball player, which got me interested in learning more about his country and culture.   In 2015, the Eurovision Song Contest experienced a chilling but  energetic song  from Latvia’s  “Love Injected , ” performed by Aminata  Savadogo , or Aminata .  This song does not say much about Latvia, but more about Aminata and how she used her  experiences to  create different perspectives and meanings of her song.  Aminata’s  performance  had little all-around aspects of the song, but  she specialized in certain  areas  like staging, where she incorporated significance in lighting, her costume, color use, and imagery, and  her own social traits, where she used her ethnic identities to  possibly bring back her cultural dances. "We live among discordant narratives, ones that we share with our fellow citizens. They are designed to create a sense of belonging to fictitious families called nations,"  ( Rovelli , 2018 )   Italian writer Carlo Rovelli s ays , as he claims in his article  National identity is fake. We should focus on the wider common good  that national identity is not  real,  and it is just a "political theatre"  ( Rovelli , 2018 )  based on how each country teaches about its history.  This  argument is surprisingly strong .   Writer John Egan  states  “ T o some, nationalism is about reclaiming pride, assert uniqueness, or articulating a sense of self ,” ( Egan , 2018 )   but to others, “nationalism  represents  the extremism, racism, and the worst of humanity”  (Egan , 2 018 ) .  To an extent, nationalism, or national identity, can cause national conflicts between different countries or nations.
